I am restless tonight. I have been restless for many nights, and I know a lot of people are restless because of what has been happening in our country over the last couple of days.
I am enraged, hopeful, restless, and feeling so many emotions all at once. I am enraged because I still see a lot of people around me who aren’t angry enough. They are enjoying their lives as if this is just another political show. We are all living in our privileged little bubbles, hiding behind our cool trips, aesthetic photos, and catchy content on social media because the fire hasn’t reached our house yet.
But our country is burning, and it will soon burn all of us. And that day, the fire will not care about our caste, privilege, or social status. If we don’t speak up today against the barbaric acts happening at the protest site against people who are merely asking questions in a so-called democracy, expressing dissent, and fighting for basic rights such as the safety of women and voter rights, then we, as a nation, may never be able to recover from the damage.
Although, at this point, I feel Modi and Shah have taken this country years backwards and caused irreparable damage. But if you, me, and each one of us remain silent even today, we are destroying our own individual futures.
The opposition, AISA, and CJP have all joined hands for all of us to protest for three demands: the resignation of the CEC, voter roll revisions, and police and media accountability. This is not about a political party. It is about our rights.
